Someone turned in a litter of five puppies and their sire to one of our local shelters a couple of months ago. They were all adopted (I have two of the puppies). I heard today that the people who adopted the adult male are returning him tomorrow. The shelter is located in Mauk, Ga. They bring dogs to the Petsmart in Columbus, Ga. on adoption days. Yes, please contact someone from WRAP if there is a whippet in a shelter or one listed on Craig's List. When I hear about one in my area, I make sure to call or email (if there's no phone number listed) about the dog ASAP. If you send an email, providing a link to the dog/shelter helps us a great deal and saves us time so we don't have to try to figure out which shelter a whippet is in (for instance, Los Angeles has more than 6 shelters, so if someone told me there was a whippet in an LA shelter, it might take over an hour to figure out which shelter it was in).

And please realize that many of the WRAP rescuers aren't able to frequent the various whippet message boards every day, so getting in touch with them directly rather than posting on a message board is usually the best way to ensure that a whippet will get into WRAP's program.

The woman who adopted a sibling of my two puppies cannot keep him. Devo is a fawn brindle, born in November, and weighs about 23 lbs. Kind of ironic, as she is the one who told me about the puppies in the first place. Bottom line is that Devo is looking for a home. He is near Columbus, GA.
