Hi Guys! I don't post often but I do hang out an write a bit. I recently ran into this site while looking for booster shots for my roos. I would like to know what you all think of this info. I have also sent it to Michaels breeder to get the show circuit opinion.

i found the sight u have there when i got the dude, printed it out and took it to my vet.he agreed that boosters after the first year with some shots were not nessasary.so my boys only get a v5b shot(parvo distemper hepatitus parainfluenza andenvirus) as well as a bortadella every 6 months and a shot for lyme disese, because my boys go everywhere we go and to the kennel once a month.the way i see it is that my vet spent years training to take care of racing greyhounds at multnomah downs(or rose downs as we called it) in portland oregon is very interested in listening to what i have to say about my dogs,is the only non large animal(cows, horses) vet around and is so busy it some times takes months to get a appointment i listen to him.

I don't believe in giving vaccines, except for Rabies, and that's only because it's by law.
I think there are far to many reactions, especially with the combo shots.
Dr. Jean Dodd has written some excellent articles about vaccines, here's a link to her protocol site:
http://www.doglogic.com/vaccination.htmYou have to personally do a lot of research before coming to a decision and what you feel is best for your dog, don't ever take anyone's word for something -- look into it.

Good luck in your research!

I do the same. My dogs all only get the Rabies vaccine as the law requires and no others.

Since I worry about parvo and distemper in puppies, I would get only those first puppy shots and then nothing more after the pup is 6 months old.
I have personal experience with the rabies shot causing immune disease in our smooth fox terrier, Alf. He now has vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels), and he has to take prednisone and azithioprine (sp?) every other day probably for the rest of his life. Every 3 months we have to take him to a dog dermatologist which costs $170.00 to have his blood tested to make sure the medications aren't harming his liver and kidneys. I worry about the medications compromising his kidneys, and he has gained a lot of weight from the prednisone, and it has also caused his coat to become very thin. He is always acting famished, and he pants a lot, and he can't hold his urine now as well as he used to be able to. Bad stuff, but if we didn't give it to him, he could have tissue wasting, especially the tips of his ears might waste away from lack of blood supply. It is a heart breaking situation.
I know that the rabies vaccine is required by law, but if I ever get another puppy, I WILL NOT have the rabies vaccine administered to it. I now know that certain breeds are especially prone to having adverse reactions to the rabies vaccine such as shelties, jack russells, and poodles, and I guess you could add smooth fox terriers, since they are similar to jack russells. I have not heard anything about whippets being especially prone to adverse reactions to vaccines, but I totally agree that it is not necessary to have the boosters done every year.

Unfortunately (or fortunately perhaps) more vaccines do not necessarily equal increased immunity. This is simply not the way that antibodies work.

It makes me feel better-so no worries there for me.
It is interesting to see people have qualms about vacing 4 legged babies just like they do human children.
