I am so worried and nervous. Jake has been having hip and leg problems and he got worse the past few days. I just went home for lunch and he fell and can't put his right leg down. Since he is so large and it would be hard to transport him in pain, the vet is coming today at 2:30. I gave him his pain meds at lunch so he could rest until I get home.
Very stressed right now, I love my boy.

Oh my! Poor Jake! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing bad. How long has he been having trouble with it?

Quick update, I have to keep an eye on him. The Vet gave him a pain shot and Bill went to CVS to fill a pain med prescription for him. Right now she thinks its very bad arthritis but if the meds don't help she can do an x-ray to rule out tumors. House calls rule!
He is resting now, hope he stays in bed.
He has had hip pain for about a year but the leg thing started within a few weeks.

Oh, no. Poor Jake.
I hope it is nothing worse than arthritis. You are lucky to be able to get a vet who will make house calls. We need to find a new vet now, since our vet moved to a different area too far away from us. I hated to lose him, too, because he owned whippets and was very familiar with their anesthesia needs.

He still won't go to sleep, he just lays there huffing and puffing. I think it might be a looooong night.
Yes, I am thrilled that the vet could come here. Jake is very large and was in a lot of pain, so transport would have been awful. Plus he gets so frightened at the vet's office. At home he was just laying in bed while he got shots.

I'm so sorry to hear that Jake is in pain. I know it's hard for you to watch him be so uncomfortable. Please keep us updated.

He is a little better this morning. He can put his rear leg down and walk somewhat. He isn't eating much but the meds probably make him feel icky. He started Tramadol this morning so we'll see how he does. I put papers down on the floor so he can go potty if he has to.

I'm sure that after the inflammation goes down and the pain meds have been in him for a few days, he will be doing much better. I hope it's just arthritis. Sounds awful, but at least I know what that is and shudder to think of other things it could be. Don't say it out loud.

I'm superstitious.

Well, he met me at the door with the other kids and he had some supper (soft food). He looks much more comfortable now when he lays down and no more panting. My vet is awesome!! She even called today to see how he was feeling.

Wednesday update:
Jake is still a bit wobbly and sleepy but I think its from all the meds. Same thing with his appetite. He is normally a piglet but now he only eats a tiny bit. He is sort of returning to his routine though which is good, and he can get up and down without strugging.

That sounds so much better. I'm very glad to see that Jake is doing better.

Pain meds can me feel queasy so I would assume that some dogs would feel the same way. "piglet"

This morning he was being silly and playing with toys, so I think the worst is over (crossing fingers and paws).

Unfortunately he is not better

He has to go to the vet for x-rays under anesthesia on Thursday and from there we will decide what's what. I appreciate all of your good thoughts for him. We're hoping it's arthritis and not any of the other bad things it can be.

He is having a bit of a hard time today - fell once, stumbled a few times. But he had some yummy snacks and had a good nap. He can't eat after midnight so I want to spoil him a bit.
Dreading everything about tomorrow!

Well, we made it to the vet okay. He was hungry and terrified. When I left he was sedated and waiting for his tests. Vet will call in a few hours with the results. Molly is freaking out.

Ok, it's been a few hours now.

What did the vet say?
That's so sad and sweet about Molly worrying about her big brother. What a sweetheart she is.
I know you are a bundle of nerves yourself.
